QUITO, ECUADOR

The weather in Quito was very chilly and wet. Our drive from the airport at midnight to the hotel was quite an adventure. Did you know that stop signs are "optional" after dark in Quito? We learned the hard way when our taxi driver opted not to stop and Lynne scolded him. We woke up early to more rain and headed to the VIP (pronounced "beep") Airport. That is where we would take the smaller airplane to Coca.

These photos show beautiful Quito, Ecuador. Look at all the houses and buildings. There is no doubt this is the capital city of Ecuador.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at our hotel. Some of the food was very familiar, but some of the fruit indigenous to the area had to be identified and explained by our waiter.

Can you tell Vernona is excited about the next part of our trip? We are all eager to get on this plane and head southeast to Coca and then on to the Napo River. Every step gets us closer to the Yachana Lodge.
